I am Lynn Stevens, a Canadian fine art photographer and the creator of Liquid Artistry™. An artistic practice that I created that explores the relationship between moving water, mindfulness, and emotional wellbeing through authentic macro photography.
I notice the tiny worlds most people walk past, the shimmer of a reflection, the curve of a ripple, the colours hidden beneath moving water, and the painterly moments that exist for only a fraction of a second before disappearing forever.
The Journey
My journey began when I was 11 years old, when my mom placed a 110 film camera in my hands and encouraged me to explore the world through photography. Growing up in Saskatchewan, I fell in love with the endless skies above me. After moving to British Columbia at 19, my world expanded, and so did my photography. I photographed everything. Landscapes, wildlife, flowers, portraits, travel, and commercial work. My camera went everywhere with me. But the photographs that meant the most were the ones nobody ever saw.
When life became overwhelming, when I felt disconnected or lost, I always found myself returning to the water. I wasn't there chasing an image. I was there searching for stillness. Standing beside a creek or immersed in the water itself, my mind would quiet. My body would soften. Time would slow down. The process became the healing.
Today, I create those same moments of calm and wonder for myself and my collectors
The Process
Using a macro lens, I get incredibly close to the water often standing or sitting right in the creek. I feel the moving energy of the creek rushing past me. moving slowly, observing, waiting, and allowing nature to reveal itself. After decades of training my eye, I often see the image before I ever press the shutter.
I take the authenticity of photography seriously. Every piece is created with the same intention: to preserve what nature created, not alter it. My work uses natural light, minimal editing, and no colour alterations. I do not add or remove elements. What you see is what you get. Often I don't even crop the image. I preserve nature the way it was intended and the craft of photography.
The Artwork
No one image will every be the same. This work is unrepeatable, the moment and the image can never be recreated. The rarity is what makes this work so rewarding. That is why every artwork is released as a very small limited edition. I believe the rarity of the artwork should reflect the rarity of the moment it came from.
My work is unapologetically bold, colourful, and full of energy. These are not simply images to look at, they are pieces to feel.
Many collectors tell me they sense a feeling of calm, wonder, and connection before they even know what they are seeing. That is what I hope my artwork brings into a space: a shift in energy, a moment of pause, and a reminder to slow down and a bold statement of presence and energy.
