Lynn Stevens ~ Beneath The Surface
"The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." Pablo Picasso
Hello, I am Lynn Stevens. I'm a mother, artist and gardener. I would like you to join me in an exploration of the healing powers of water, abstract photography, and mindfulness.
For me, photography is not just a passion, but an appreciation for the gift of sight. I look beyond scenes themselves to explore alternate worlds created by light and shadow, vibrant colors, and captivating textures. I am particularly inspired by exploring pareidolia themes, which is the ability to see familiar patterns in everyday objects or scenes. I love how this approach offers a window into an alternate reality that expands and challenges the boundaries of my imagination as well as those between photography and other forms of visual art. Based in Salmon Arm, BC, Canada, I call this beautiful town home, where I live with my incredibly supportive husband and our adventurous one-year-old son, Mad Rad. These two gentle souls serve as my greatest inspirations, joining me on many of my creative escapades. While one fills the air with music, the other fills it with infectious giggles, making every moment an unforgettable journey."

The surrealism of my photography is balanced by my commitment to preserve the authenticity and integrity of the art of photography. All of my artwork receives minimal digital editing and has a complete absence of colour altering filters.
Capturing the essence and various forms of water lies at the heart of my artistic expression. For myself, the fluidity and ever-changing nature of water has always encouraged mindfulness and deep self-reflection, balanced with a level of gentle and playful curiosity. As a woman who has struggled with chronic pain, and the emotional challenges that go along with it, spending time in contemplation with water has always given me strength and a rejuvenation of the soul. I believe that the emotional connectivity between my art, water, and mental wellness, can transcend beyond my own healing, to those who view my art.
By sharing my art, I hope to inspire others to explore the healing powers of nature all around us, and to challenge themselves to look beyond the surface of what we see in the everyday, awakening a sense of wonder and possibility in the way we see the world.
